How to Sell Health Insurance Leads

How to sell health insurance leads to agents, agencies, call centers and networks that buy several insurance lines at once. Sign funded agents first, capture the household, and plan exclusive, shared and aged tiers.

The short version

Health insurance buyers are agents, agencies, call centers and networks, and most of the 74 companies in our directory sell them Medicare, life, final expense or auto leads too. Only 15 publish health-specific criteria, so a seller who segments well stands out.

The lead should carry the household: age, household size, income, tobacco use, current coverage and the plan type wanted. Agents filter on these and on licensed states, and returns cover bad numbers, duplicates and off-filter leads.

Sign agents before you buy traffic, have each fund a balance, let several bid, and plan a capped shared tier and an aged tier from day one. Aged leads sell here at falling prices.

Who buys health insurance leads

Health insurance company sites describe buyers from single agents to marketing organizations and call centers, and many buyers also resell.

BuyerWhat they buyWhat to know
Independent agentsExclusive real-time leads in their licensed states, filtered by age, income and coverage type.25 companies here let agents sign up and order online, so expect self-serve habits. In Juiced the agent funds a wallet and sets filters and caps.
Agencies and call centersLive transfers, inbound calls and web leads for dialers, sometimes routed to agents on their team. One company sells transfers only to teams with several agents ready. Juiced distributes web leads, so calls and transfers need separate call tracking.
Contracting agenciesLeads for agents contracted or appointed with them, sometimes bought and assigned to a downline.A few companies here sell only to their own contracted agents. Expect a vendor review and questions about consent records.
Networks and exchangesLeads and calls from publishers, call centers and aggregators, resold to agents.Eight bar incentivized traffic and a few withhold payment for invalid leads. Keep a source sub ID and consent certificate on every lead.
Aged lead buyersOlder leads in age bands at lower prices, often for dialers.25 companies sell aged leads. This is where unsold leads go.

The health insurance lead buyer directory lists every company we found that publicly buys or sells health insurance leads, with what each one says it does. It is a research starting point, with no contact details.

Start with exclusive real-time web leads, which 52 of the 74 companies offer, then add a shared tier with a stated cap. Transfers and calls are common here, but Juiced distributes web leads, so calls need separate call tracking.

What to capture and screen for

  • Coverage wanted: individual and family, short-term, dental and vision, or Medicare.
  • Date of birth and household size.
  • Annual household income, which a few companies capture or verify.
  • Tobacco use and any major medical conditions.
  • Whether the person is insured now or has coverage offered through an employer.
  • State and ZIP code inside the agent's licensed states.
  • A consent certificate and a source sub ID on every lead.

Building it, in order

  1. Sign agents before you build traffic

Get each agent's licensed states, the coverage types they write and their daily capacity. Several companies here target or onboard by licensed state, so ask on the first call.

  2. Get every agent to fund a balance

21 companies here run prepaid or funded accounts and invoicing is rare. No free sample leads, no promised volume by a date, no invoices. In Juiced the agent funds a wallet and is charged as each lead is delivered.

  3. Define each tier in writing

Say what exclusive means, how many agents get a shared lead and when a lead becomes aged. Several companies here say exclusive on marketing pages and non-exclusive in their terms, and agents have learned to ask.

  4. Write the return policy and set expectations

Credit bad numbers, fake information, duplicates and off-filter leads. Decide whether students, agent tests and language barriers count, whether returns are capped and whether aged leads are final. Walk each agent through it on the first call, because agents will blame the leads.

  5. Build the lead type around the household

Add date_of_birth, household_size, annual_household_income, tobacco_use, coverage_type, currently_insured and employer_coverage_offered. Mark what agents filter on as required for ping and keep contact fields for the post.

  6. Generate only where a funded agent is waiting

Point traffic at the states and coverage types your funded agents write. A short-term lead in a state where no agent writes short-term has nowhere to go but overflow.

  7. Let several agents bid

Ten companies here run bid or auction models, so agents are used to competing. Buyers bid above your minimum and the highest bid wins the lead in seconds.

  8. Have overflow ready

Aged leads sell here in age bands at falling prices. In Juiced, leads no agent takes go to your own marketplace, where the price falls until someone buys with Buy Now or a standing Buy Order.

  9. Track every source

Keep a source sub ID and consent certificate on every lead. Networks that buy here ask for traffic sources, bar incentivized traffic and withhold payment for invalid leads.

What makes health insurance different

  • Health is usually one line on a multi-line insurance menu, and only 15 of the 74 companies publish health-specific criteria.
  • Every format sells: exclusive, shared with a cap, aged, data, transfers, calls, appointments and clicks.
  • Self-serve buying is common, with 25 companies offering online signup or ordering.
  • Bidding is familiar, with ten companies running bid or auction models.
  • Aged leads are priced by age band, and several stores lower the price as a lead ages.
  • Several companies' exclusivity claims conflict with their own terms or FAQs.

Common mistakes

  • Selling a generic health lead without household, income and coverage fields.
  • Calling a lead exclusive without saying for how long, or shared without saying how many agents.
  • Starting agents on invoices or free samples instead of a funded balance.
  • Generating in states where no funded agent is licensed.
  • Launching without deciding whether returns are capped and whether aged leads are final.
  • Having no outlet for leads that do not sell fresh, when aged leads have buyers here.
  • Losing the consent certificate or source sub ID when a lead is resold.

Frequently asked

Who buys health insurance leads?

Independent agents, agencies, call centers, contracting agencies and networks. 34 of the 74 companies in our directory run call centers or transfer floors, and 26 run networks, exchanges or marketplaces.

Do I need health-specific fields?

Yes. Only 15 companies here publish health-specific criteria, so household size, income, coverage type and current coverage set your leads apart and let agents filter.

How do health insurance agents usually start?

Often online. 25 companies offer self-serve signup or ordering, others start with a call, and 21 run prepaid or funded accounts.

What do agents filter on?

Most target by state, and several by county, ZIP code or radius. Several also filter on age, income, coverage type or lead age.

What consent records do health insurance buyers expect?

16 companies name TrustedForm or Jornaya, and several pass consent text, timestamp and IP address. 13 put do-not-call obligations on the buyer. The rules are published by the FCC and FTC.

Do health insurance buyers take returns?

Usually for bad numbers, fake information, duplicates and off-filter leads. Several sell all sales final, four cap returns, and several sell aged leads as final.

What do health insurance leads sell for?

No prices are published here. Sellers rarely publish them, and what a health insurance lead sells for depends on whether it is exclusive or shared, a web lead or a call, the geography, how fresh it is and how many buyers want it. The pay-per-lead pricing guide shows how to work out your own floor from cost and let buyers bid above it.

Does Juiced handle health insurance calls or live transfers?

No. Juiced distributes web leads and delivers them by webhook, email or text. It does not track or route phone calls, so if calls are part of your product you need call tracking software for that side.

From Juiced

Selling health insurance leads to more than one buyer?

Juiced is lead distribution software for companies that sell leads. Buyers fund a wallet and bid above your minimum, each lead goes to the highest bid in seconds, and leads that miss their first buyer go to your own marketplace instead of being lost.
